Trauma reshapes everything.
You move through the world on alert, waiting for something to go wrong. Your mind knows the danger is over, but your body never got the message. That tension, the emotional dysregulation, the intrusive thoughts, the hypervigilance, the flashbacks…they wear you down.
At Mindful Path Counselling, we offer Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) to help your nervous system slow down, feel safe, and finally unwind the patterns that formed when life overwhelmed you.
What Is DBR & Who Can It Help?
Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) is a trauma-informed therapy that supports people who continue to experience distressing symptoms long after a difficult or overwhelming experience. It’s often helpful for those who have tried other forms of therapy but still feel stuck in the body-based effects of trauma.
DBR offers gentle, effective support for:
- Anxiety or constant worry
- Depression or low mood
- Intrusive thoughts that interrupt your day
- Flashbacks or sudden emotional flooding
- Hypervigilance or feeling on edge
- Emotional dysregulation that feels unpredictable
- Chronic tension or pain with no clear medical reason
- Attachment wounds or trust that feels fragile
DBR works by releasing the survival tension your body has been carrying, helping you feel more grounded and less overwhelmed. At Mindful Path Counselling, we’re here to help your brain gently rewire old patterns and create more ease in your daily life.

Our approach
How Deep Brain Reorienting Works
More than holistic health, we offer Wholistic Health
- We begin with the body’s first reaction
In a calm, supportive setting, your therapist will help you notice the small sensations that show up when you think about the moment before the trauma. These sensations mark the place where your system first shifted into protection, giving us a safe starting point for the work.
- We move gently, never pushing
Together, you move through the process slowly and gently. You sit comfortably while we track sensations in a steady, manageable way. There’s no reliving the event and no pressure to talk through details. Your system leads, and we follow.
- We support your nervous system as it unwinds
As your body releases the tension it has been holding, things begin to soften. Your emotions feel steadier, your thoughts feel clearer, and your breathing feels easier, helping you feel more grounded and in control.
We invite you to stay as long as you need on your path to well-being.

Questions About Deep Brain Reorienting
Who is Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) for?
DBR is for anyone who wants to release stored tension in their nervous system in a slow, gentle, and carefully guided way. It’s especially helpful for people who feel overwhelmed by other trauma therapies and need an approach that moves at the body’s natural pace.
Although DBR is a newer therapy, early research is encouraging. Therapists around the world are seeing strong results, with studies showing improvements in trauma symptoms, emotional regulation, and overall nervous system calming.
Do I have to relive the traumatic memories?
No. You never have to retell or relive what happened. Your therapist only needs a general sense of the moment right before the trauma, so together you can find where your body first started to react.
How is DBR different from EMDR?
DBR focuses on the very first survival response in the body, which is the deep tension held in the brainstem, and works from the bottom up. EMDR starts with the traumatic memory, emotions, and thoughts, using bilateral stimulation to help the brain process the event. DBR begins with the body’s automatic reaction. EMDR begins with the memory itself.
How is DBR completed?
Your therapist guides you through a gentle sequence that helps activate and release the tension stored in the brainstem and midbrain. This work can be done either in person or online, depending on what feels most comfortable for you.
What does the DBR process feel like?
Most people describe DBR as calm, steady, and surprisingly manageable. You sit comfortably while your therapist helps you pay attention to the small sensations in your body. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is forced. You don’t have to revisit the trauma or talk about details you don’t want to share.
You stay in control the entire time, and your therapist follows your pace. Many people notice moments of ease, warmth, or softening as their system begins to settle. The process is designed to feel safe, grounding, and supportive from start to finish.
