TALK TO SOMEONE TODAY
FOCUS ON ONE THING THAT MATTERS
NO PRESSURE TO CONTINUE
Sometimes, you don't need a long-term plan. You just need today
Life has a way of piling up all at once, and some things can’t wait for an appointment two weeks out. Whether you’ve gotten some shocking or bad news, are sitting with something heavy, or are working through a difficult decision, you don’t always need a full course of therapy to find your footing. Sometimes, you just need one good hour with someone who understands.
A drop-in, single-session therapy appointment means you can talk to a therapist right when you need it most. Come in to one of our locations, or meet from wherever feels safe, anywhere in Ontario.
*This is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or need urgent support, please call a crisis line or go to your nearest emergency department.
Who is Drop-In, Single-Session Therapy for?
Maybe you have been curious about therapy for a while, but the idea of committing to weeks of it feels like a lot, so a drop-in, single session feels like a gentler place to start. Maybe you already have a therapist, but something came up this week that you can’t sit with until your next appointment. Or maybe you are standing at a crossroads, and you just need one clear-headed person to help you think before you make your next move.
In your same-day, single therapy session, we’ll focus on the concern that brought you in. Instead of taking the time to take a full history and work through your backstory, your therapist dedicates the session to addressing what you’re facing right now and giving you practical strategies and a clear path forward. After that? It’s up to you. Some people leave feeling like that one hour was exactly what they needed. Others decide they want to keep going, and that door is always open. Either way, there’s no pressure to commit to anything beyond today.
Drop-in, single-session therapy is one focused hour, right when you need it most.

Our approach
How Drop-In Single-Session Therapy Works
More than holistic health, we offer Wholistic Health
- You reach out, and we find you a spot
Call us or book online, and we’ll look at who has an opening today. We’ll ask a little about what’s going on, and whether you’d rather come in or meet online, so we can match you with a therapist who fits. If nothing is available today, we’ll be upfront about that and find you the soonest time we can.
- We work through it together
You and your therapist start by naming the one concern you most want to focus on, because keeping it to a single, clear goal is what lets one session do real work. From there, you look at it from a few angles, notice what is keeping you stuck, and find a way forward that fits you. You are encouraged to ask questions and steer the conversation toward what feels most useful.
- You leave with the next step
By the end, the aim is to walk away with a little more clarity, a practical tool or two, and a sense of what you want to do next. If it feels helpful to keep going, your therapist can talk through your options.
We invite you to stay as long as you need.
When Drop-In Therapy Isn't The Right Fit
Some things deserve more than an hour, and we would rather tell you that upfront than have you leave a therapy session feeling like it didn’t hold what you brought. A drop-in appointment isn’t the right place for:
- Thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, or any situation that needs urgent care
- Trauma processing, whether it happened recently or years ago
- Assessment, diagnosis, or managing a complex mental health condition
- A relationship where you are being harmed, or a rupture that runs deeper than one conversation can hold
- Children or youth under the age of 19.
Not sure if this is a fit? Reach out. We’ll talk it through and point you somewhere that helps.

Questions About Drop-In, Single-Session Therapy
What happens in a single therapy session?
You and your therapist focus on one concern you choose at the start. Rather than gathering a full history, the session zeroes in on where you feel stuck and what would help you move forward. You leave with a clearer perspective and, often, a practical next step.
How do I book a drop-in therapy appointment?
You can book online or call us. Drop-in spots are limited and not guaranteed, so reaching out earlier in the day gives you the best chance of finding an opening.
Can I meet in person, or does it have to be online?
Both. Drop-in single therapy sessions are available in person at our Brantford, Kitchener, Toronto, and Simcoe locations, and online anywhere in Ontario. Availability depends on which therapists have same-day openings.
What if I want to keep going after one session?
Is this covered by insurance?
How much does a session cost, and how long is it?
Sessions are scheduled for 60 minutes, during which you’ll spend 45-50 minutes directly with your therapist. The remaining 10-15 minutes are allocated for preparation, note-taking, and managing your client file.
At Mindful Path Counselling, we offer a wide range of therapy services that vary in cost. Student interns offer reduced-fee counselling services to fit every budget, and full-service providers offer a variety of fees depending on the provider selected. Make sure to discuss therapy fees during your consultation call.
Who is this not the right fit for?
Some concerns need more time, consistency, and care than one session can offer. This is not the right fit for active crisis or thoughts of harming yourself or others, ongoing trauma processing, managing severe or complex mental health conditions, court-mandated therapy, or ongoing relationship abuse. If you are unsure whether it’s a fit, reach out, and we’ll help you find the right support.
Can I bring more than one thing to talk about?
You can bring whatever’s on your mind, but one session works best when you and your therapist pick one thing to focus on. If a few concerns are tangled together, your therapist will help you figure out which one to start with. Naming the rest is still useful, and it can help shape where you go next if you decide to continue.
Will I have to start over if I book another session later?
No. Your therapist keeps a record of your session, so if you come back, you are not starting from scratch. Depending on availability, you may or may not see the same therapist, and either way, your file goes with you.
What if one session isn't enough?
That happens, and it is not a failure. Sometimes a conversation opens up something that deserves more time and care. If that is where you land, your therapist will tell you honestly and help you figure out what kind of support would fit, whether that is ongoing therapy with us or a referral somewhere else.
