Trying to bury grief, shame, anger, or fear that just won’t let go only makes them heavier, leaving you stuck in cycles you wish you could break. It can feel frustrating and lonely when, no matter what you do, the same emotions keep coming back and pulling you down.

Our approach

How Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) Works

More than holistic health, we offer Wholistic Health
EFT unfolds in three phases designed to help you move from pain to transformation:

In the beginning, therapy focuses on creating emotional safety and building trust. Together you’ll start to recognize how emotions show up in your body and learn to identify deeper primary emotions such as sadness, fear, or shame beneath surface reactions like anger, defensiveness, or numbness.

Once safety is established, you’ll begin bringing important emotional experiences into awareness. Using guided techniques such as imagery, focusing, or empty-chair work, you’ll learn to stay with your emotions in the moment, uncovering their meaning and the unmet needs hidden within them.

As you process emotions more deeply, painful feelings begin to shift into new experiences of compassion, strength, and clarity. You’ll reframe old narratives, build a stronger sense of self, and practice expressing emotions authentically, leading to greater resilience and healthier, more fulfilling relationships

These phases help address the emotional roots of anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship distress.

We invite you to stay as long as you need on your path to well-being.

Questions About Emotion-Focused Therapy

EFT is unique because it focuses on helping people understand, feel, and transform their emotions, rather than simply talking about problems or changing thoughts as in CBT. It’s experiential and emotion-centred, which means the focus is on working with feelings in the moment. In individual therapy, EFT helps uncover and transform deep emotional wounds, while in couples therapy, it creates a safe space for partners to understand each other’s emotional needs and reconnect on a deeper level.

EFT can be very effective for a wide range of challenges. In individual therapy, it’s often used to address depression, anxiety, trauma, shame, self-criticism, emotional numbness, or unresolved grief. In couples therapy, it’s especially helpful for relationship conflict, emotional disconnection, communication struggles, infidelity, or attachment insecurity. At its core, EFT is most beneficial when difficulties are rooted in deep emotional pain or disconnection from yourself or others.
Not right away, and only as much as you feel ready for. EFT respects your pace, and your therapist will meet you where you are. That being said, going deeper emotionally is often part of the healing process. If old wounds or long-standing patterns come up, they’re explored gently and with care, so you can begin to shift painful cycles and find new ways of relating to yourself and others.

The length of EFT depends on your goals and the depth of the work you want to do. Many people begin to feel meaningful change within 12 to 20 sessions, while couples EFT often ranges from 8 to 20 sessions. Our team of experienced, compassionate therapists is focused on your healing and will move at a pace that’s comfortable for you because lasting transformation takes both time and emotional safety.

Yes. At its heart, EFT for couples is about helping partners move beyond conflict and back into connection. Instead of falling into blame or shutting down, each partner learns to recognize and share the emotions and needs that lie beneath their reactions. This often allows couples to communicate with greater vulnerability and empathy, rebuilding trust and creating a deeper, more supportive bond.
