Some of our Social Workers/Psychotherapists can facilitate canine-assisted counselling. With the help of Leonard, the French Bulldog, the Social Worker/Psychotherapist can incorporate him into a talk or play counselling sessions. Working with Leonard increases your opportunity to track behaviours and reflect feelings in session.
Benefits:
The simple act of being with and petting Leonard in your counselling sessions releases an automatic relaxation response. This can be beneficial, especially if you live with post-traumatic stress disorder and experience triggers that leave you feeling anxious. Leonard can help provide you comfort, increase mental stimulation, and provide a happy distraction to discussing difficult situations.
Challenges:
This is not a good option if you do not like dogs.
Goals:
This will help you on your road to recovery for you to better manage your mental health distress.
