Sometimes getting help feels harder than the thing you need help with

You want support, but the thought of sitting across from someone or staring into a camera can feel impossible. Talking out loud feels too intense. Your schedule is all over the place. By the time you find a quiet moment, the day is already gone. You need therapy that meets you in the real world, not the ideal one.

Text Therapy gives you a simple, flexible way to get care right from your phone, wherever you need it.

Smiling Afro-American woman is texting on the phone while sitting on a sofa in a room during morning or later in the day. She is wearing a green shirt and jeans. She might be taking a break during work. She might be having a video call or taking a selfie.

Who is Text Therapy for?

Text therapy is for anyone who wants easy-to-reach, low-pressure support. Writing things out can feel safer than talking, especially on days when life feels messy or overwhelming. You get time to breathe, collect your thoughts, and say things in your own way. Vent it out, delete it, rewrite it, whatever helps you be honest. Text Therapy gives you the freedom to show up exactly as you are.

This format works beautifully for teens who naturally communicate through text, adults trying to balance work and home, parents who never seem to get a quiet minute, and first responders who need private support that fits around unpredictable days. It is also a gentle fit for anyone moving through anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief, ADHD, or those heavy seasons when talking out loud feels like too much.

At Mindful Path Counselling, your therapist meets you right where you are. Your phone becomes a calmer space to talk through what is going on, feel supported, and move at a pace that feels doable.

Text Therapy helps you heal in the rhythm of your real life.

What can text therapy help with?

Sometimes your mind races faster than you can talk. Typing things out slows everything down. You get room to steady your thoughts, breathe, and feel supported without the pressure of speaking before you’re ready.
If talking face-to-face makes your stomach drop, or your voice disappear, texting can feel like a huge relief. You share at your own pace and in your own words, without worrying about how you sound or look. It gives you a calm way into therapy when talking feels like too much.
Grief has a way of showing up in the quiet moments. Text message therapy gives you a gentle place to talk through death, separation, divorce, and the life changes you never asked for but still have to carry.
There are days when getting ready for a session or speaking out loud feels impossible. You still deserve care. Texting lets you talk through what feels heavy, find small moments of relief, and build a little momentum without pushing past your limits.
Writing gives you control over the pace. You share what you can, when you can. A text format is especially supportive for first responders and anyone living with trauma or PTSD who needs a steadier, more contained way to reach out.
Typing things out helps clear the mental clutter. Together, you look at what trips you up, what helps you feel organized, and how to make daily life feel a little less chaotic.
Parents carry so much that no one sees. Text therapy fits into the unpredictable moments of your day, helping you get support, strengthen communication, and find your footing without adding more to your plate.
Breakups, divorce, identity shifts, job changes, and other big transitions can feel easier to sort through in writing. You get space to talk through what is happening at a pace that feels safe and grounded.
When work drains you or takes up too much headspace, texting with a therapist gives you a private place to unpack everything, get clarity, and build strategies that actually support your wellbeing.

Our approach

How Text Therapy Works

More than holistic health, we offer Wholistic Health

Before we start, you’ll download the Signal app and find a private spot where you can type freely. At the start of each session, you’ll let your therapist know where you’re physically located. You and your therapist will message back and forth in real time, easing into the session at a pace that feels comfortable.

Together, you explore what you’re feeling and what you want support with. Your therapist tailors the conversation to your goals and communication style. Texting naturally slows things down, giving you space to think, rewrite, and express yourself in a way that feels honest and steady.

You receive tools, insight, and support that you can carry with you after the session ends. Even if you cover less content than in spoken sessions, the work often goes deeper because you’re moving at a pace that feels safer for your nervous system. We’re here to help you grow in a way that feels manageable and real.

We invite you to stay as long as you need.

Questions About Text Therapy

Text-based psychotherapy is therapy done through secure messaging on the Signal app. Instead of talking in person or on video, you communicate with your therapist in writing. Sessions are synchronous, which means you and your therapist set aside a 60-minute time slot and message back and forth in real time, the same way you would for an online or in-person session. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider to verify coverage of text therapy before your session.
All communication happens through Signal, an encrypted platform that keeps your messages private. Therapists follow the same ethical and legal standards they do in person. Nothing you share is disclosed without your consent, unless required by law or safety guidelines.

Text therapy can support many of the same concerns you would bring to in-person or online counselling. People use it to work through anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief, ADHD, relationship stress, burnout, and those heavy moments when life feels confusing or overwhelming. If writing feels easier than talking, this format can make opening up feel much more doable.

It can be an emotionally safe and approachable way to access support for:

  • Teens
  • Adults
  • First responders
  • People with social anxiety
  • Anyone who feels safer writing than speaking
  • Those with unpredictable schedules or caregiving responsibilities
  • People navigating trauma, PTSD, or emotional overwhelm
Frequency depends on what you need and how your therapist structures sessions. Some people meet weekly. Others check in a few times per month. All communication happens during a scheduled, fully paid session, and your therapist will help you create a plan that fits your life.
Research shows that text therapy can be effective, especially for building insight, emotional support, and coping skills. While some approaches work best in person, many people find text therapy convenient, accessible, and genuinely helpful.
