EVIDENCE-BASED CARE

Something happened at work, and you're still carrying it.

Maybe it was a single moment that changed everything: a traumatic incident, a threat, an event you can’t stop replaying in your mind. Or maybe it built slowly over time, years of harassment, relentless pressure, or a physical injury that brought on a wave of anxiety you didn’t expect. Either way, you’re not the same as you were before, and the people around you might not fully understand why.

You may have been told to push through, or to be grateful it wasn’t worse. But what you’re experiencing is real, it has a name, and it is recognized by WSIB as a legitimate workplace injury.

A WSIB psychological assessment is often the first step toward getting the right support, and finally understanding what you're dealing with.

Why Get a WSIB Psychological Assessment?

Psychological injuries from the workplace are not always visible. You may look fine on the outside while dealing with sleep disruption, hypervigilance, avoidance, low mood, or an inability to concentrate that has changed how you function every single day. These are real symptoms, not personal weakness.

The challenge is that without a formal assessment, it can be difficult to access the treatment and support you are entitled to through your WSIB claim. A WSIB psychological assessment gives your experience a clinical name, creates a structured path to treatment, and provides WSIB with the documentation needed to authorize care.

At Mindful Path Counselling, we conduct these assessments through Ontario’s Community Mental Health Program (CMHP), a structured, evidence-based program designed to support workers with psychological injuries in recovering and returning to life.

A WSIB psychological assessment can help.

Who WSIB Assessments Are For

Some jobs carry a heavier weight than others. Certain workers in Ontario face some of the highest rates of workplace psychological injury, and if that’s you, we want you to know we see you and we’re here.

First Responders & Healthcare Workers

Police officers, firefighters, paramedics, nurses, PSWs and others on the front lines are repeatedly exposed to trauma, violence, and loss. PTSD, burnout, and moral injury are common responses to what you carry. WSIB recognizes psychological injuries in first responders and healthcare workers, and you deserve the same quality of care you give to others.

Indigenous Workers

Indigenous workers may face compounding experiences at work, including racism, cultural harm, and environments that fail to honour their safety or identity. When a workplace injury occurs, it can intersect with intergenerational trauma and systemic barriers. We are committed to providing culturally respectful, trauma-informed care that ensures WSIB services are accessible and meaningful.

Workers Experiencing Trauma, Burnout & Chronic Stress

You don’t have to be a first responder for work to leave a mark. Accidents, harassment, workplace violence, and chronic high-pressure conditions affect workers in every industry. If something at work changed you, your psychological injury is real and WSIB may be able to help you access care.

How does a WSIB psychological assessment help?

A comprehensive psychological assessment identifies what you are experiencing, whether that is PTSD, depression, anxiety, adjustment disorder, or another condition related to your workplace injury. You will leave with clarity instead of confusion.

Once your assessment is complete and findings are submitted to WSIB, the results are used to authorize and structure your treatment plan through the Community Mental Health Program (CMHP). No assessment means no pathway to funded care.
Our assessors prepare thorough written reports that outline your diagnosis, functional impact, and recommended treatment. We handle the submission so you don’t have to navigate that process alone.

If counselling is recommended and authorized by WSIB, our in-house therapy team provides evidence-based treatment in structured blocks. You stay with a team you already trust, and we track progress throughout.

Recovery is the goal, and for many people that includes returning to work on their own terms. The CMHP is designed to support that process, with care focused on restoring functioning, well-being, and confidence.

Questions About WSIB Psychological Assessments

You do not need a referral from a doctor to contact us. However, you do need an active WSIB claim and authorization from your WSIB case manager before your assessment begins. If you have an open claim and have been told you may be eligible for psychological services, reach out to us and we can help you understand the next steps.
A WSIB psychological assessment is specifically structured around your work-related psychological injury and follows the guidelines of Ontario’s Community Mental Health Program (CMHP). It includes standardized testing, a diagnostic process, a functional impact evaluation, and a formal written report submitted directly to WSIB. It is more detailed and documentation-focused than a general intake, because the findings directly inform your WSIB claim and treatment authorization.

If you have experienced significant changes to your mood, sleep, functioning, relationships, or ability to work as a result of something that happened at your job, it is worth a conversation. Psychological injuries do not always look the same from the outside. WSIB recognizes a range of conditions including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorder when they are connected to a workplace event or conditions.

Yes. At Mindful Path Counselling, we offer both the assessment and in-house treatment. If counselling is recommended and authorized by WSIB following your assessment, you can continue care with our therapy team without starting over somewhere new.
Psychological injuries frequently occur alongside physical ones. WSIB recognizes this and the CMHP can address the mental health impact of a physical workplace injury as a distinct component of your claim. Our assessment can help clarify and document that connection.
Once your WSIB claim is active and services have been authorized by your case manager, WSIB-approved assessments and counselling are fully covered. There is no out-of-pocket cost to you. We will confirm what has been authorized before any appointment takes place so there are no surprises.
