Who is therapy for?

Most of us spend our days taking care of the needs of everyone in our life—our partner, our kids, our boss—and we neglect our own needs. Making your mental health a priority is a courageous step in getting to the place where you can fill your own cup first.

Therapy offers a safe space for open conversations about the challenges you face on a daily basis—big or small. Our hope at Mindful Path Counselling is that you will feel safe and supported on your journey to a happier and better life.

Therapy is for everyone.

How does therapy help?

Throughout a lifetime of dealing with challenges, we develop ways to cope, some healthy and some that don’t serve us well. Therapy offers a safe and supportive environment to learn and practice effective coping strategies, helping you manage life’s challenges more constructively.
The right support can be a game-changer. Therapy provides a safe and empathetic space where you can share your thoughts and feelings without judgment. We are here to offer unwavering support, ensuring you don’t have to face your difficulties alone.
Past experiences play a part in shaping the patterns we live by, and often, we don’t realize that the symptoms we are living with are our mind’s way of protecting us from future trauma. In therapy, we can help you identify the symptoms of the trauma you are dealing with and work toward solutions that help you live with more trust, confidence, and happiness.
Building and maintaining strong relationships takes work, and while you can’t change the people you are in relationships with, individual therapy can help you make improvements in your own life that will positively affect your present and future relationships – with lovers, family, colleagues or friends.
Understanding yourself on a deeper level not only plays a part in improving your relationships, but it can improve your life in so many other ways. Therapy can help you understand how past experiences have shaped who you are today, what your triggers are, and the thought patterns that help you – and the ones that don’t serve you. Understanding yourself better can help you live with more courage and confidence.
Our past experiences shape us in many ways, and over time we develop thought or behaviour patterns that make us feel stuck and unhappy or keep us from reaching our goals. Unhealthy patterns can include things like people-pleasing, negative self-talk or perfectionism. In therapy, we can help you identify and shift these patterns into healthier alternatives that support your mental well-being.

Questions About Individual Therapy

Yes, therapy can help! At Mindful Path Counselling, we use a variety of approaches, including EMDR Therapy, CBT, DBT, Art Therapy, and many more. As we get to know you, we will create a treatment plan that is tailored specifically to your situation and needs. Therapy is the most effective when you are committed to the process, and in between sessions you will have the opportunity to put some strategies into practice so that we can adjust the process if needed.

Stress is typically a reaction to a specific situation or event and usually resolves once the situation passes.

Anxiety, however, is a more persistent feeling of worry or fear that continues even without an immediate stressor. It tends to linger and can interfere with your daily life.

If your worry or fear is persistent, seems excessive, and is starting to affect your daily life, it might be anxiety. If you are still not sure, we can help you identify whether you are experiencing stress or an anxiety disorder and give you tools and strategies to manage it.

Please note that we do not provide diagnoses for anxiety or stress. Determining if someone is experiencing symptoms of anxiety or stress requires a comprehensive evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional, such as a family doctor, psychiatrist, or psychologist. If you do not have a pre-existing diagnosis, we will refer you to a family doctor, psychiatrist or psychologist.

The biggest indicator of whether therapy is working is how you feel within yourself. The timeline and rate of improvement will be different for everybody, but here are some indicators that you are seeing progress:

  • You find it easier to function in daily life
  • You notice that you have more confidence
  • You don’t have as many physical symptoms
  • You are falling asleep faster and having a more restful night

One of the biggest indicators that therapy is working is if you start to engage wholeheartedly in life, finding joy in activities and relationships again. Therapy can be challenging, as it often involves confronting difficult emotions, but this discomfort is part of the growth process.

The effects of ending therapy can vary. For some, it might be the right step after achieving their therapeutic goals, while for others, it could be premature and lead to a recurrence of old patterns or symptoms.

In therapy, we can help you figure out the best way to wrap things up or maybe suggest slowing down the sessions first. We can also offer advice on maintaining your mental well-being post-therapy. Keep up with taking care of yourself, and don’t hesitate to reach out for help if you start feeling like you’re slipping back into old patterns.
